Troubleshooting Help

Hello, I was hoping to take a trip in the truck this weekend but I have ran into a problem and I hoping ya'll can help.
So here is what is going on, My truck is a 04 6.0 f-250 Turbo Diesel 142k on the odo. It seems to gradually have become a problem and is now an issue. The truck fires after turning over about 15 times sometimes less. When it does it seems to idles rough almost rhythmically although sometimes it can seem random. Upon stopping and starting the truck runs rough and seems to jerk. However once up to speed the truck runs fine. This is until you accelerate hard or up a hill. Most notably when in cruise control and the truck goes up hill. I am unsure of the problem and through my research I am drawling a blank... some say its the coil, some say fouled plugs, others egr, some tranny failure....... Please help me out here
Oh the oil was changed 1k ago and the tranny fluid is bright and doesn't smell burnt.. never fails to start.
Thank you in advance!
Taylor.

Now I am not a diesel guy never owned one myself but to me it sound more like a fuel problem. Do diesels have injectors maybe that is the problem. Go to you local auto parts store they should be able to pull codes for you and then we can tell you more but I am not a complete diesel tech I am more into gassers. Sorry.

keep search options limited to 6.0 forum in advanced search this will help reduce the reading.
I have similar probs yet to isolate it. But from what I have been told here and from shop it could be egr or turbo. Both simple solution just require cleaning. I've done the egr clean simple, there is a thread in tech folder on it. Also you can isolate if its the egr t simply disconnecting it. Granted if it is stuck open may not help.
I have not gotten to the turbo cleaning yet but it appears simple enough, just time consuming.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately? Any smoke while cranking or right after it fires up?
