donmi, there is no need to swap engines (well, you didn't say your n/a was bad or anything yet.) they make turbo kits that bolt right on your 7.3l idi n/a engine in a weekend.many of us have done this.
i didn't know anything about these turbo's either.the guys here helped me right out,and now shes like a different truck;

there are far better threads though than that one.i didn't take time to do a write up or anything nor many pics like many have.once you get going, you figure it all out pretty good anyway.

Michael,
To answer your question, yes a powerstroke swap is possible, but it is a ton of work. You would need pretty much a complete donor truck, so you could swap wire harnesses and a lot of other things. If I were going to go through all that it would be for a cummins swap. If you just want more power, look for a Banks Sidewinder kit, or an ATS wastegated kit that will bolt on to your current engine. It makes a world of difference in power, and as stated, can be done in a weekend if you have a complete kit.
Good luck,
Mac.

We need to know what type of turbo to answer that.
There is no real way to test one, especially if the truck is not running. Look for play in the compressor wheel shaft. Get a brand and model, and we can tell you what you want to pull off. The basics will be,
Turbo and compressor
Turbo oil supply hose, and fittings.
Intake hat that bolts to the intake manifold.
glow plug controller relocation bracket.
CDR relocation hardware and valve cover if present.
Crossover, Y, up, and down pipes. there should be a total of four turbo specific exhaust pipes.
Air intake filter and housing.

it's a Banks Turbo system.
I found in CL, the ad says, Truck is running, 100.000 mls.
Problem is, it's in Idaho, and I live in BC, Canada.
Question: do I trust the seller or not......??
He will remove the turbo from the engine.......
Or, even better, somebody from this forum is close by, only a thought.
