Question 1996 F250 - Rear Fuel Pump Not Working

I have a 5.8L 1996 F-250 with dual tanks. Both tanks rusted out, however both fuel pumps and level sensors worked fine. Removed bed, replaced tanks, re-installed original fuel pumps, front pump and level sensor work fine, back pump and level sensor no longer work. Findings as follows:

1) Voltage present at connector for rear tank (brown wire).
2) Continuity to ground for both ground wires at connector (orange and black).
3) Sending unit chassis has continuity to ground.
4) Wires have continuity all the way back to the selector switch.
5) Front pump works when connected to the rear pump connector.
6) Checked selector switch, it's OK.
7) Jumped selector switch out for good measure, no change.
8) With rear tank selected fuel gauge is pegged past full.

Given that the pump and level sensor worked fine 6 months ago, and now neither works I'm a bit suspicious. Sounds like a ground problem but the grounds seem to be in order. Find it hard to believe that both the pump and level sensor would randomly fail. Anyone have any ideas before I go out and waste money on a new fuel pump?

Thanks
Mike

Suspicion Confirmed

Swapped pumps, problem solved... Very lame that the pump would die just sitting in a box...

They'll crap out on you real suddenly. One week they're working, then you fill up the tank and the find the truck won't run on the tank you just put $60 in.

The fuel pump gods' make sure the fuel pump dies only when the tank is full. (3 times for me.)

I put one in, ran it 5 minutes and shut it off. Next weekend I went to crank it and it was dead again. Seller warrantied it, replaced it cranked it once to move it around, haven't tried again. Hope it works when I do. Never bought a no-name pump before ...... never again! Should have listened to my own advice!
Motorcraft, Airtex, AC, Carter all good .......... China, NO!

Carter USED to be a good name although I haven't used one of theirs in years. Airtex is my preferred pump for the money. Never had an issue with any of them that I have installed.
