That IS pacing! If I was still 18, it would have included mornings and afternoons!

Good morning guys!

Happy Belated Birthday Trent!

So I go through wireless routers like candy. I meant every 12 to 18 months they are shot. I buy good stuff and they are in well ventilated areas. The routers get pushed hard as I push a lot of data every night to servers at our corporate offices. I used to blame that, but then I was thinking (incidentally, that is usually my first mistake) that is over the wired connections. What always goes is the wireless network functionality. Mainly extreme loss of range or constant disconnects, but very spotty performance at best.

I update firmware regularly. I've used DD-WRT or the stock firmware with the same results. How long do your routers last? If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. If not...I'll just order up anther wireless router and move on

Gerry...short answer is yes. They pay for them. No issues there. Just more curious if I'm going through them super fast and I can prevent it or if that's just par for the course. I do have three kids sucking down the wifi all the time, but I don't think our household is any different than most with kids.

Gerry, I'm glad it is you driving that bus through that mess and not me.

Andre, my ex is still using the wifi router that I got for Christmas 8 years ago, and it serves the tv's, DVR's, lots of tablets and several laptops. The router I am using is provided by my ISP and is almost 4 years old with no issues, and my wireless load is similar to hers.

Is there anything around there causing RF interference, or cordless phones, etc that could cause issues?

Yes and no. I moved it to three different locations in the house (different rooms). I also reboot monthly, clean with compressed (canned) air, and keep i in the open for ventilation. I think I'm going to just smash it and buy another one. I'll feel better

A great way to smash it is to set it next to (in front of, or behind) a front tire on these big Diesels and drive over it repeatedly until it either starts working again, or each piece will fit easily into a dustpan. That method also works very well for cell phones.

On a side note, my wifey is very pleased with the gift I'm giving her for Valentine's Day. Not every woman out there would get excited about getting a CHL as a gift. I'm very lucky!

Howdy guys!

Happy belated BDay Trent!

Andre, our home router is 8 years old no issues, kids hammer it pretty hard. Work is another story. Have been thru 2 in the last month. Many in the last few years. I have spent between $50.00 and over $1,000.00 on them and it makes no difference. I know nothing about computers but our IT guy says the last 2 were from someone hacking them and f'ing them up. I call BS but IDK. I know the boys at work do that torrent thing (whatever it is) and it exposes us to somewhat (I think) so I tell them do it at home, no more at work. Then the boss lady tells them go ahead and giv'er LOL. I can't win! Anyway, I am no help.

Have fun fellas
