A kick is actually just an unwanted "influx" could be saltwater for that matter. A blow out is an uncontrolled "kick".....

Roy, So it must of got a little chilly over there if Lynn started a fire. I hope we have another month to go before we have to have a fire. I like the temps we are having now, maybe 80° today and mid 60° at night.

So it blows the sand or sea water back up onto or into the well rig? 1,700' there must be a lot of pressure down there. So does that kind of thing happen very often?

Cool beans Tim - you are not that far off from my weather. I live in South Central AK so the climate is milder than other areas of the state.

I have other friends that live in your neck of the woods, not exactly sure but very close to Anchorage. I think they had more rain then snow last year, maybe it's always like that, not sure. I know they had a lot of rain though.

Kicks (an influx) are pretty common, just by the very nature of what we do, but equipment, training and technology has made it to where we can detect and "shut in" (close the Blow Out Preventer) and "kill" the well fairly quickly and prevent a blow out, they still happen, but are usually on CNN pretty quick.

Sounds good Mitch, I don't have CNN for that matter we are not hooked up to network TV at all. Anyway kind of out of touch I guess. Thanks for the info.

I'm out of here, catch ya later Mitch have a good night.

I live in Eagle River which is close to "Anchorage" - even though Anchorage PD handles this area. I am also about 1/2 way up a mountain. Kinda hilly roads around here with long 10% grades.

Last year was an anomaly here according to the locals with more rain and not a lot of snow.

And I bet CNN has a satellite permanently fixed over all of the rigs just waiting and watching...

Mitch, we've flattened entire units before and it was scary enough. I can only imagine how much worse it would be in the tight confines of a platform in the middle of the night and a hundred feet above the surface of the ocean.

Sounds good... For the record most towns are close to the water here, even me. There is an Eagle River that runs through town....

Tons of lakes too...

Doug - Yeah you are like me, I want to shoot what I own, not look at it on a wall.
