Thank you, she is a great kid with a bright future.

But, as others have shown, there are a ton of good folks out there that are successful with college degrees, or just hard work and smarts.....

When we found out my wife was pregnant, I told her in front of the entire family that I didn't care if he/she ever had the highest of grades or even went to college, as long as he/she had common sense, he/she could get through life. We've been blessed as he loves making good grades and has tons of common sense.
I do agree with Roy, the educational system is not near what it used to be. Neither is the guarantee that you will work in the field of your studies. I have BBA and another two-year degree and love being a paramedic. I could not handle being a finance officer at a bank and behind a desk 8 hours a day!
I too have seen people ridiculously smart but can't open a box of cereal

Howdy from the perfume factory Gents.

I'll take a strong work ethic over a college degree any day. When my daughter was stressing over the possibility of being the "dumb kid" at UPenn before she started, I reminded her almost verbatim of what Roy said, that being educated does not make you smart, or vise-versa. There are a lot of idiots who have graduated with great degrees, and there are a lot of people who have no degree, that are successful anyway.

Have a great evening guys!

As I told our son....I don't care if your a ditch digger but you will be a educated one. Just be the best at whatever you decide to do. He is with the federal gov. And is a gs12 with the USDA and is very happy with his job. He calls once in a while asking how to handle some farming problems. Proud dad

I agree 100%. Be the best at whatever you do - whether scrubbing toilets, or running the Skunkworks.

I guess I led by example. Driving school bus for 20 years and being union rep for 6 years. I never had a write up or any verified complaint. Human resources when I retired told me I was the first retiree in many years who had nothing in their record. Same for my military record.

I think this college prez has it right. We are raising a bunch of self absorbed children who may never grow up. As I read through the FTE forums I'm encouraged that there at least a few folks left who understand and accept their responsibility for how their kids are raised. Amazing what can happen when parents actually parent and teach their kids about work, ethics, morality; and also amazing what happens when they don't.

The analogy I use with today's schools is the kids can tell you how to build a bomb but not know how to light the fuse.......
