This is prolly a 1 page thread at most
I'll let Steve field that questions, but given it's construction, I am going to bet completely even temperature cooking and flavor.
I use gas...I love charcoal, but only can cook with it on vacation. I just don't seem to have enough time for charcoal any more. My current grill is in it's last year of service and I may go back to charcoal. I've seen what Steve cooks on his egg, so naturally I'm considering it, but I don't think the egg alone makes the food. At some point I have to not suck

'Better' is up to the griller really. Kamado style cookers are excellent because you can sear a steak at 700 degrees, or cold smoke cheese at 115 degrees. They do it all and do it really well. They are a pain to move though as it's a thick and heavy ceramic egg.
It really is, I was honored to be asked. I rented a house on Lake Guntersville that week. Remember the last time I rented it my truck ship date moved Ugh, I cannot win! I may try to slide over to ATL since it's about 2 hours away for the day though. We will see. I really want to go and wish I would have known about the invite earlier.
One uses lump charcoal in kamado style cookers. I use a MAP torch to light it and it's at temp as quick, if not quicker than a gas grill. No joke.
Thanks man. I'm excited and hope I can do this.
That's a good generic guide to searing a steak But how about a brisket, pork butt, or beef short ribs etc?

Well thanks guys, I'm stuck out here on the rig and ya'll talking about good BBQ!
Actually it is "seafood day" out here, pretty good spread today. I've been looking at the BGE, didn't know anyone that had one personally, so was afraid to make the investment (ain't cheap!). From what I gather from reading here, they're pretty good. As far as gas vs charcoal, I have to stick with charcoal. I know gas is more convenient and all, but...

Darren - IF you get the dodge, make sure you park with the mirrors up and not pulling a trailer...
BBQ - YUM.... I have a gas grill now too, not a fan of charcoal BBQing anymore. Not that I can't do it, just like gas better.
Mitch - Have fun on the rig - at least you can get really fresh seafood, right?

I saw a Ram at the local Farm store the other day and his mirror were down. I told the guy that was the first Ram I've seen in a while with the mirrors down. He hung his head down in shame and said that his wife won't let him change them because she likes them down. I felt bad for the guy.

Mitch, say safe out there and enjoy your seafood day. BGE's are no more expensive than any other top of the line gas or charcoal grill.
I don't know if this damn rain is going to let me enjoy the races with friends. It's suppose to rain all weekend but then again, what's new!?
Have a good one all.
