Rebuild 7.3 vs 6.0 vs 6.4

I am at somewhat of a crossroads my current ride is a e99 F-250 long bed ext cab 6 speed with 350k miles the truck has lived a hard life and I want to go faster. I want to stay a daily driver but make 650+ rwhp I have about 25 grand cash with my credit I would need to put about 5k down on a 6.0 and 10-15 down on a 6.4

At this point I am thinking I have 3 choices

1. Restore the 7.3

2. Keep the 7.3 buy a 6.0 (I would use the 7.3 for dump runs ect. To keep the new truck nicer)

3. Sell the 7.3 buy a 6.4

I would also like to hear why you feel the way you do.

650+RWHP.... rethink the number, buy a 6.4L and put a MiniMaxx on it. $25 grand isn't going to be enough for a 71+mm or compound turbo setup, meth spray, 215cc injectors, HPOP, FASS, transmission, and all the goodies to make them work together on a 7.3L or 6.0L while keeping it useable for anything other than going fast at the track. You need $15-20k just in parts to start talking about taking a 6.0L or a 7.3L to the 650+HP level.

I was thinking that with the 6.4 I would do batmowheels on both turbos, 6.0 manifolds, 65hp injectors wastgated egr delete, bigger intercooler, intake, 5" dpf delete muffler deleate exhaust, head studs, hpfp, custom tuning, and an ats or similar transmission and tc.

Just a little more then what rudy did here to overcome my altitude of 5000ft and I will not be drag racing or pulling just looking to be the fastest in town 0-40mph

Stock turbo vs Batmowheel vs Billet 71mm - PowerStrokeArmy

Also I will be doing the work myself in my shop I have had the cab off on my 99 so with me doing all the labor i should save some cash there.

With a 6.4L you should be able to get close to 550-600HP on almost just the tuner, that's why I said said rethink the number as a specific target and just go with a tuner to see where it takes you before you commit to sticks and other mods, a 500+HP 6.4L is a sports car compared to a stock 7.3L. The 6.0 and 7.3 aren't going to get there without a ton of work, a 6.4L can get you close without messing with hardly anything but studs.

a 6.4 with xtreme race will get you knocking on 600 hp.. 500 hp tune on a 6.4 is like a tow tune. a 6.0 will take you a few more dollars to get in the 600 hp range. 175/75 or 190cc injctors and a stage 3 Madturbo, studs, tuner, egr delete, prob a trans sooner or later. I was pushing over 600hp without nitrous on my singlecab on stock trans, then i went with suncoast and it was never right again!

A lot can be said for not having a truck payment. Keep the 7.3L, mod it and save the money for a rainy day.

Are you talking engines or are you talking trucks? To get that horsepower out of any of those engines its going to eat that $25K up pretty quick. If you are talking about trucks, well, sounds like you have credit. I didnt vote yet because I am not sure what you are asking yet.

To be clear I could

Put 25k in to my 7.3

Keep my 7.3 for dump runs and buy a 03-07 6.0 and throw 20k worth of parts at it

Sell my 7.3 for about 5k buy a 08-10 6.4 and throw 20k worth of parts at it.

If you could live without that HP number, I say go with an 06-07. You can spend less than 15K on top of the truck cost, getting it reliable and making dam good power. You would also be able to find it at a good price since so many are afraid of the 6.0L trucks.
The 6.4 might be a bit of a money pit. Parts will go up in price as years go by.
Your truck, although probably nice is well worn as many of the 7.3L trucks. They are just getting older and worn.
You dont have the option listed above. Sell your truck and buy a nice low mile 06-07.

6.4 is the most mod friendly and very few upgrades are required aside from a tuner and intake.

just from the "nice-ness" aspect on the interior...I would get a 08-10 model with 6.4. I love my 2006, but Ford really hit a home-run with the 08+ vehicles

7.3 is like driving a 4 banger Mustang...6.0 is like driving a GT...6.4 is the GT500

Have you ever driven a 500 RWHP vehicle? I think you are throwing around numbers without truly knowing what you are asking for. My little 6.0 is maybe 380-400 RWHP with tuning...maybe

with this truck I am constantly spinning my 35" tires at low speeds...and I legitimately am not trying 80% of the time. While fun, it can get old. Especially with more HP than what I'm rocking. At a certain point, the vehicle stops being fun to drive and you spend more time concentrating on avoidance techniques and looking for police.
I ditched my 09 Mustang Bullitt because I had done all the bolt-ons and had lost all respect for it. 1-2 gears were useless even with DOT legal slicks. I spent all my time looking for and avoiding bad stretches of the road and trying not to powerslide too much. That and my tuning made her squirrelly at low speeds due to aggressive setup

I think you'd be more than happy picking up a nice 6.4 and tune it. You'll have more power than you need, and can easily win those 0-40 stoplight to stoplight races. Keep the 7.3 as the junker hauler and pocket all the other $$$ vice wasting it on useless HP aspirations

I just went through this same process. I say sell the 7.3, and buy a 2010 with the 6.4. I was going to go through my 2000, which I bought new in 99. Then I test drove the newest design platform. The HP and all the rest aside, once you drive the newer truck you will never touch the 99 again.
it is that much nicer to drive.
The 6.4 with the egr and dpf deleted is a rocket, even with light tuning.
I have had mine(6.7) for 1 month and it is so nice compared to my 2000 with the 7.3 and 6 speed, that I haven't even ridden my motorcycle since I got the truck.

Well I have a high 9 sec 80 z/28 , a low 11 sec 85 corvette (thats at 5200ft elevation) and a 190MPH Yamaha. Is that close enough? Never had any of them on the dyno but I am sure power to weight ratio are close to what I am looking for.

Just checking. Alot of people throw around numbers and have no actual concept of exactly how powerful that is

Those 1/4 or 1/8 times. Impressive for the elevation and I'm assuming BBC
