what front hitch version to buy?

Looking to buy a front hitch to install on my 1995 F250 2wd super cab with a 460. There are two options available, one is for a 4WD and the other is for a 2WD both made by “Curt” mfg.

Question is which is the better one and why?
The first one mounts directly to the end of the frame horns and the second mounts to the frame. I would think the second one would be stronger as it has six mounting holes instead of just four. Also the 4wd version looks as if it would not reduce ground clearance.
Both the hitches are rated the same, any reason why I would not be able to mount the 4wd version on my 2wd truck?

Gettin' hitched...

If your truck is a 2WD you will need the unit designed for 2WD. The front frame forks on F250/350 4WD trucks are different: They are made to accommodate the front shackles for the leaf springs used on the 4x4s. I have a Hidden Hitch unit on my F350 2WD (at least it was from the factory, I have since converted it to coil sprung 4WD but that is another story for another time) and it works great.

I would buy the one for the 4wd. It bolts using the bumper brackets(same on 2wd and 4wd). The 2wd has you drilling holes in the frame and will only work on a 2wd

Are you sure the bumper brackets are different between a the 4wd and 2wd? The reason I ask is because Draw Tite makes a front receiver hitch that is the same design as the Curt and it is universal for 2wd and 4wd.

see this pic... I just dont want to order the wrong one and not have it fit.
