Ashtray delete 1987-1991 OBS???

Has anyone deleted the ashtray on their 1987-1991 OBS truck? If so can you attach a photo of what you did?

My 1991 F250 4x4 is headed to Baja if and when this craziness ends and in an effort to make my life easier there I am making a few improvements, the last few were a high flow water pump and 120A third generation alternator.

To keep the battery alive for the months I am not there I installed a solar battery tender and it looks sloppy with the astray hanging open. I needed to replace the cigar lighter because it was really crusty and causing the tender to have a intermittent charging issue.

When I removed the ashtray to replace the cigar lighter I found an enormous cavity that can be used to house a switch panel for lights, a kill switch, USB or other gadgets. This just screams for an upgrade.

I’m interested in some DIY deletes too. I’m going to be installing buckets and a console in mine. Idk yet if the console will completely block the ash tray opening.

I smoke in occasional cigar and this ashtray is completely useless for me aside from being a power outlet. I will retain the lighter for power and perhaps 6 switches and an additional power port.

I pulled mine and used the space to install a gauge panel.

Nice, what gauge did you put in? I was thinking about a compass or driving clock.

Cool. I have oil pressure, voltage and water temperature on the dash but sometimes want a vacuum gauge.

Copy that. I use a gauge like a barometer and don't think much about them unless they change. My oil pressure lives at about 2/3 of the way over on 20/50 which is 60 psi as does my voltage which I know is 14.4 volts. My temperature lives at 1/4 or the range with a 180 thermostat.
