Im looking for a stering column shifter fix....
My friend just called me and said his shifter on the steering column has come apart down by the firewall. he said there is a plate or something that has two rivets that pulls the cable to the trans. his truck will not go in to park and has to put it in low to get it in to drive.
Is there a link to a fix on this here ?
It's an 01 f250SD auto
I have never looked at mine down by the firewall so i hope what he is telling me is right.
Thanks, Phil

I've broken the Torx Screws before as well, I replaced them with Allen Head socket screws, and loctite, there is an aligning pin on the plate and if his happened to have sheared off versus just fell out you will need to get those out too, but they shouldn't be really tight.
Here is a picture of the plate on the end of the shifter tube.

In my work van (E250) a bolt from the top of the stearing shaft got loose and fell out. I put it back in with a dab of blue lock tight and its been fine. I dont have any pics and it was in a pretty tight spot. It was doing excactly the same as you discribed right before it stopped shifting at all. I found the bolt laying in the floorboard.
