94 ranger 2.3 runs rough
i took over working on a 94 ford ranger 5 speed, runs rough. i am confused that when i unplug the plug on the alt. it runs alot better, but as soon as i plug it back in it spits sputters and dies.. i was told that the timing belt, alt, spark plugs, and wires also the crank sensor have been relplaced. i am getting codes for egr and pip. i have cleaned electrical connections and checked for vacuum leaks.

^ + 1 on beginning with removing & having the replacement alternator bench tested!!!!
If its found to be faulty, have the replacement bench tested Before leaving the store with it!!!! When possible, always have electrical things bench tested at the store before leaving with them, as most manufacturers don't 100% test, because of added cost!!!!

I keep hearing around here about bad replacement parts. Don't know how common it is, but alts are certainly in the group that gets talked about.
It would be really nice if you could sub another alt to see what happens.
I've read about alts causing misfires etc because they generated electrical noise. Sometimes this can be seen with a scope. An alt like that would check out fine in normal bench testing
Otherwise, it's certainly possible that the alt has some more common problem that would show uup on a bench.
good luck,
hj
