Cam phasers
My loved and reliable f150 decided to throw the cam phaser issue at me today, 2 days before I drive 840 miles to Montana to see my dad who is fighting cancer! I usually do all work on the truck myself, but with the trip coming, I don't have the time to get the cam shaft tool and whatever else I need for parts! The questions I have though are....
Has anybody had any expierience with Titis will ford in Tacoma wa?
And for those of you that have also had the cam problem and took it to the dealership, does it sound correct that they are quoting me over a grand just to do phasers and about 3000 if they have to do cams and phasers unless the engine is possibly bad!!!!!!

I don't think I'd do the phasers without doing the tensioners and guides. The gasket on the seals blow causing low enough oil pressure to cause phaser issues. New phasers may stop the noise, but it will come back. It will also come back if the issues was caused by sludge or a cheap oil filter that came apart.
I just had a Ford mechanic do my phasers/guides/tensioners. Both my '04's tensioners had blown gaskets. Nobody can say for sure how long it's safe to run like that, but the previous owner had run my truck for at least 20,000 miles with phaser noise.I paid the mechanic $800 and paid $400 for parts: Ford guides, gaskets, tensioners and Dorman phasers. There was no camshaft damage, and now the engine runs quiet.
