HELP!!! - Keep Smoking #3 coil pack after transmission overhaul

Hey guys,

Hope you can help me with my current issue on my 2000 v10 excursion.

I just got done overhauling my transmission, had it pulled (new seals on the rear of motor and transmission) I had a transgo shift kit put in and also a new monster torque converter.

Well after its been all put back together, I drove it the other day to work and after it was parked for couple hours I drove to run an errand, the vehicle died, checked my fuses and the 30 amp, pcm ignition fuse was blown i changed it and it blew again, then one of my coil packs started smoking (#3) it was ruined so i changed it and put a new one in and replaced the fuse, after starting up and running for about 30 seconds the fuse blew again and then smoked the brand new coil. I then tried it again with another new coil pack and it also smoked that one.

Whats wrong HELP.......

Thanks,

Sounds like a short in a wire harness. Is it possible one got pinched when the tranny was done?

Make sure the wire harness plugged into the transmission is plugged in securely. Not sure why it is choosing #3 cop to smoke. Expensive fuse that is for sure. Have you put it on a scanner?

A scanner will tell nothing of importance.

Check for the pinched or chafed harness as suggested. Look specifically at the circuit that runs from the low side of the #3 coil to the PCM (pink/white wire).

Bingo!

I bet the wire got pinched, and now it's just laying on something metal, intermittently shorting to ground.

Is that what ya said when your thumb was attacked?! Lol

On a serious note, i agree sounds like you pinched the pink/white wire. I did something similar with my old Bronco, except it was the O/D wire, talk about being pissed after a Fresh rebuild!
