HELP!!! - Keeping Smoking #3 coil pack

Hey guys,

Hope you can help me with my current issue on my 2000 v10 excursion.

I just got done overhauling my transmission, had it pulled (new seals on the rear of motor and transmission) I had a transgo shift kit put in and also a new monster torque converter.

Well after its been all put back together, I drove it the other day to work and after it was parked for couple hours I drove to run an errand, the vehicle died, checked my fuses and the 30 amp, pcm ignition fuse was blown i changed it and it blew again, then one of my coil packs started smoking (#3) it was ruined so i changed it and put a new one in and replaced the fuse, after starting up and running for about 30 seconds the fuse blew again and then smoked the brand new coil. I then tried it again with another new coil pack and it also smoked that one.

Whats wrong HELP.......

Thanks,

Luke.

Since this is more specific to the V10 and not so much to the X, you may want to post over in the Modular V10 (6.8l) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

I would suspect a chafed wiring harness on the left side (passenger) of the engine. Interesting that it is only #3. I am interested in seeing what you find. I would try to carefully inspect the wiring harness loom to see if it is rubbing either: wires against wires or wires against a stud or something.
