Removing and re-installing body trim
Hey FTE's. How is the trim attached behind the body (1964 f100 custom cab), and how difficult is it to reinstall. All I could find in the way of instruction on removal, is to pry it off with a plastic pry tool. Is that the best way?
Thanks as always.

The trim on your 64 is held on primarily by clips which are attached using nuts on the backside...look in the backside of the bed side rails and you will see a line of nuts...thats for the molding...if the studs are rusty, wire brush the stud and nut and hit with a good rust penetrant...PB Blaster is my favorite...its smelly stuff so use a rag or wear rubber gloves. Theres also one more clip that can be seen looking down into the rear stake pocket...its accessed by removing the tail light out of the bed or through the access hole that sometimes still has its cover held on by a single phillips head screw.
The clips on 63-64 type trim is harder to find so hopefully most will cooperate during removal. If you are removing for new paint, I would leave the cowl molding on as that molding is held on by 2 square clips that pop into the holes in the body and are all but impossible to remove without damaging the molding.
All other moldings are held on by nut clips...the hood is the other area where rusty clips are common...wire brush and spray with rust penetrant and let set a bit before trying to remove them.
NEVER EVER simply pry the moldings off...they are aluminum and if pried off will seldom lie back against the body proper upon reinstallation...Ive seen that done on cars and trucks over the years...irritating as some of those clips are highly sought after and easy to remove...like this trim is IMO.
