Hi, i'm new to this site so please bear with me! i'm installing a 5.0 engine in my 1959 f-100 and wanted to use a manual trans. I bought a good used trans, supposed to be 3-speed with overdrive, not a granny gear 1st. A mid 80s truck trans?? Aluminum case, 4-speed top shifter. # on tag-rts bvh8 e6trma0992 what trans do i have?? Thanks

Sounds like the top shift version of the 4 speed OD. Other versions are the SROD, where the shifter is back on the left on a turret with a tube connecting it to the main box. And there is an iron cased side shifted version as well. These are patterned after the old Ford "Top loader" performance four speed from the '60s/'70s. They are also called "T170"s.

Aluminum cased versions are the weak sisters of the group. Don't side step the clutch or bang gears....

The site where I found pics is no longer available, but there is a pic of the guts here on the iron cased job:

I bought a RTS TS-OD 4-speed overdrive trans, aluminum case, 4-speed top shifter. RTS E6TR-MA

What trans do I have?
E6TR-MA = RTS-BV TS-OD (Top Shift 4 Speed Overdrive): 1986/89 F150 302 2WD.

RTS TS-OD = 1984/89 E150/F150 & Bronco.

The multi-part gear shift lever is an abomination foisted on mankind by FoMoCo. The trans is a notorious "weak sister."

One speed shift, you can kiss the little darlin' good bye.
