Good deal - just remind me in a few weeks then & I'll look.

Thanks! And you picked a good time to come visit weather wise. Sept. is I think my favorite month here. Sunny, warm water & the crowds have gone home! Too bad I won't be around or I'd give you a tour of the shop. Next time I guess.

Yep,, we used to live down there in RSM,,, 10+ years,, I got out the Corps in 92 and she retired in 00 from the Corps,,, got the hell out of OC in 02,,, miss the friends and food,,, we will be hitting up The Crab Cooker a few times!! Used to be our special occasion eatery,,, I will hit ya up on that tour some time,,, I still make the occasional runs down there,,, when I first got out, I worked for Zakhar Auto Body/Towing Express out of Costa Mesa,,,, not the best place to start driving a tow truck if you don't know the area!!! Me and Mr. Thomas Guide became great friends overnight!!
Hope the Wedding goes smooth,,, and always remember,, get the last word in "Yes Dear!"

I sold my spare 460 this morning and checked Craigslist for parts and these popped up.

ARP head studs and rocker bolts $400.00, Industrial Injection 4k governor springs $120.00 and 150lb seat valve springs $140.00, a genuine cummins head gasket $155.00, a cummins KDP tab $? and 6 valve cover gaskets $?. For $450.00. I couldn't pass it up.

One step closer to tearing into the motor. I still want a cam, and need a head and lower engine gasket set. I also want some of that por-15 engine paint. Once I get that stuff the tear down starts.

Alright y'all. Finally making some progress. Got the cummins tore down except for the crank and a couple of freeze plugs. I'm going to leave the crank in until I plasti gage it.

Everything looks great so far except for the water jacket. Looks like someone left regular water sit in it for awhile. There's no sludge build up in the head or anywhere else.

There are still hatch marks in the cylinders. Only the rod bearings look slightly worn. I'll plasti gage all the bearings after I get the crank out. So far so good. Even the pistons look good.

I am going to send it off to the machine shop to be hot tanked and have the cylinders run with a clean up hone. I'll probably start going back toghether after that if everything checks out.

On another note got a pile of parts from the wife for my birthday. Spring perches, u bolts, shock hangers, plate steel diff cover, and disk brake brackets all for the 14 bolt rear. All from Ruff Stuff Specialties.

One step closer to the 1 ton rear in my truck.

I don't know if 3.54 gears are an option for your 14 bolt rear, but they are great in my D60's. I have been told the D60 is too light but for my driving I think it will hold up just fine. I drove my truck for a few weeks after the Cummins NV4500 swap with the 4.10 gears in the truck. It sounded like it was wound tighter than a cheap guitar when running at 75 MPH. It sounds "right" now at 75 with the 3.54 gears. I don't have a tach so I can't tell you the RPM's I am spinning.

I too had a 8 MPG 460. You are going to like the 20+ MPG you can get.

My 14 bolt has 3:73's right now. I'm going to give those a shot first before I spend the money on the 3:56's. I'm running 4:10's now with a 4 speed and the 460 so I'm hoping the 3:73's with a 5 speed and the cummins works out. If not a gear change isn't that hard.

they don't make a 3.55 for the 14 bolt from what I've found. That was part of my reason for going sterling vs. 14 bolt.

Your right. The next numerically lower ratio for 14 bolt from 3:73 is 3:42.
Either way. I think the 3:73 is going to be fine with the 5 speed and 35" tires. Will see shortly.

Also the only numerically lower ratio for a 78/9 dana 60 front would be 3:54. I'm pretty much stuck with 3:73 in that case. I don't think 3:54 and 3:42 would mix in 4 wheel drive.

yup.

That's why I went sterling. Well, part of it.

My sterling has 3.73's right now and I will be 5 speed and 35's as well. I'm going to try it 1st & see what I like, but I wanted to know that if I want taller 9numberically lower) gears I had the option.

Still working on the money to buy more parts. Story of my life.

I have a set of motor mounts comming thanks to ChaseTruck754 that saves me a lot of figuring and headache.

Since the money is slow going lately I have been working on things that are free like the tranny mount. So far this is what I have worked up. I noticed that ChaseTruck754 has a small issue with the down pipe comming out close to the tranny mount. So I have been thinking of a way to get the mount above the yoke and basicaly hang from below.

This is ChaseTruck's design.

Since I like the exhast to be tucked up as possible like the exhast for my 460 is this is my idea so far. Throw those opinions at me.

My 460 exhaust as it is tucked up prety tight. The 4" single tube will surely fit better.
