Another small update. No springs for a bit. But.... I spent the money for the springs on a smokin deal for a NV4500 5 speed with 30k miles.

The guy also gave me the bell housing and the adapter, the clutch pressure plate, flywheel, fork, throwout bearing, all the bolts and the stick. He also threw in the fan bracket, bearing, fan, and fan clutch for the cummins that I needed.

Not a bad deal for $950.00.

If anyone needs a bellhousing adapter, bell housing, or a used clutch pack for a NV4500 to cummins 94 to 2002 and your local to Sacramento Ca let me know.

Anyone have any input on using this NV4500 2 wheel drive with my divorced NP205. I haven't had a chance to measure the whole deal. I think that with as long as the shaft between the tranny and the transfer is, that the 2 wheel slip yoke should work. If not ill have to change the tail shaft to a Chevy NV4500 fixed yoke output. Any foreseeable issues using a slip yoke output tranny VS a slip union drive shaft like a stock highboy? Chase Truck I can't remeber if you using the same 2wd tranny as I am or a 4wd unit.

My truck has the fixed tailshaft. It's shorter than your slip shaft one which I think is needed as that slip shaft might leave for a VERY short, middle driveshaft. As it is I think I'll have to shorten my middle shaft a bit.

Here's all the pics I could find of my trans. I don't have any good ones showing the gap between the trans and t-case though that I've found and the t-case is out of the truck so not sire if I can get a decent measurement right now but I can try if you want.

Just on looking at your pics though. My tailshaft is only 12" from the face of the tranny to the tip. It doesn't appear that yours is less than about 10" to the centerline of your yoke. Like I said I'll crawl under there in a bit and take some measurements.

I was trying to look at the pics & compare but of course I don't have a pic from an angle that makes it easy. From looking at the pic you posted I'd guess the tailshaft on yours is 3-4" longer, but I can't tell. If you want me to get a measurement from the rear, vertical face where the tailhousing bolts to the center of the yoke I can do it tonight.

Alright. Did some measuring. It is 84 1/4" from the radiator face to the centerline of the transfer case yoke. Give or take maybe an inch due to the angle of the tape measure. The Cummins and tranny from the fan clutch to the tip of the slip union out put shaft of the NV4500 is 73 1/4". For those math challenged that leaves 11". Now I figure minus 1" for fan to radiator clearance that leaves 10". Correct me if I'm wrong but 10" seems like plenty for a tranny to transfer shaft. Short yes but doable. I do not know how far the slip of the drive shaft is but that shouldn't matter much. The width part would be the two u joint carriers. So in reality it would be a u joint carier maybe a 4" or so shaft and then another carier. As long as the tranny is pointed right at the transfer case I don't see an issue.

Any input on this is appreciated. If I have to I can save 4" or so with a Chevy 2wd output. That would cost around $300.00. I hope to avoid that if the slip tailshaft I have already would work fine.

Not sure it will help you at all at this point but I did remember & measure last night & it was +/- 9.5" from the back of trans where the tailhousing bolts to the center of the u joint at the yoke.

11" seems really short for a driveshaft - but it's been done before I'm sure.

Thanks for the measurement that makes your setup around 5" shorter than mine. I agree. 11" is short. I really need the slip yoke to see if it would work or not. At least I have the option of the Chevy fixed yoke.

yeah - try yours 1st & ask a driveline shop about the option of a shaft that short & you can always fall back on the fixed yoke.

Chase truck or anyone with a newer nv4500. I am missing the screws under the rubber cap on the shift tower. The only info I've found is that they are possibly a torx head and looking into the holes look to be a sheet metal screw style thread. If anyone could pull one and shoot me a picture of it with a measurement of the length and size would be appreciated.

If I recall correctly,,, on the 5-tons in the Marine Corps,, they had a "short" jack-shaft between the trans and transfer,,, was basically a bolted flange u-jointed to a bolted flange,,,very similar to a cardan joint,,,would think you could go to a big truck junkyard/supplier with measurement,,? Or a good driveline shop,,

Unfortunately with my wedding coming up this weekend & me being crazy busy I don't think I'll get back to the shop til I'm back from my honeymoon on the 15th. If I do I'll look, but unfortunately I can't promise anything at this point

No hurry at all. I'm not starting the actual swap untill I go through the cummins and have at least 90% of the parts. It's going to be at least 2 months untill I actually pull the 460 out of my truck. Thanks though.

Cool. I'll stop by drive line specialties on the way to work sometime this week and talk to them.
