95 Lightning motor into my 96 pickup
So I'm putting a Lightning motor out of a 95 (5.8, SD) into my 96 (was 4.9, MAF) but I am wanting to keep the truck mass air, guessing I need to keep all of the EGR,/smog stuff as I still need to pass emissions here in GA for another few years.
Do I need a harness & computer out of a 96 (mass air/OBD-II) 5.0 or 5.8 truck, or does anyone have any advice?
Also, keeping it a 5 speed, but I don't think the M5OD trans will keep up with the new motor, probably swapping out for a TKO, but that's another story...
Thanks!
Brad

Depending how strict the emissions tests are where you are you may need an OBD-2 computer for that motor, but if not a Mustang 5.0 EEC would be the best choice since you have a manual trans, it will need some tuning for the larger displacement and injectors but overall it would get the most out of the motor. I can't say I have seen any OBD-2 trucks with a manual trans and even OBD-1 trucks with a stick are rare and you don't want to use an auto trans EEC because there were a ton of sensors for the trans that you'll have to deal with so a native manual computer is the way to go.
