PMM Coolant Filter Review

This thread will be about my review of the Performance Machine Manufacturing coolant filter. Fred @ PMM sent me a filter kit to put on the truck and I should be finished with the write-up tonight. Stay tuned for pics!

This is the kit as it arrived from PMM.

The biggest complaint I have is that the bolts I was sent were too small for the filter head to mount to the bracket. Fred from PMM said that it only affected kits built on 2 days from a hardware supplier mixup. I grabbed some bolts and washers that fit properly.

I had a Dieselsite kit installed on the truck already and I had no complaints with it whatsoever. Here are some pics of the kit as it was installed.

And look at how much room there is without the inner fan shroud/stator!

Now with the Perfomance Machine Manufacturing kit installed.

It would have been nice if the hoses were a little shorter so they would fit better and if they were black. Other than that I think the kit fits nicely everything looks good. No leaks at the point. PMM did well with this kit.

I installed my PMM coolant filtration system a couple of months ago and couldn't be more satisfied. Approximately 200 more miles before I change filters again. This is filter #3...filter #2 had less "stuff" (sand & rust flakes) in it than filter #1. I'm confident that the system is doing it's job and will continue to clean the coolant. Good luck and keep us posted.

The filter base plate on yours is different than mine. Mine does not have any black paint on it. I changed my first filter at 500 miles. I was suprised when I cut it open. I did not have even the first grain of sand, silica or any foreign matter in it. I have drained and flushed my radiator with VC9 twice and only have 65,000 miles on my truck.

My kit was slightly different. Mine also had no black on the filter base. I kind of like the looks of the painted base.

The only issue I had with my PMM kit was hose length. They did offer to build me a shorter custom fit set when I mentioned it in another thread. I didn't think it was enough of a problem to make them recut the hoses. But, it was good customer service for them to offer.

I'd definitely do business with them again.

What made you decide to change from one filter setup to another?

Agreed, it seems to be a waste of money since both are bypass kits and will work identical to each other. Incidentally the Napa 4069 filter is one inch shorter if you need some extra room.

+1.... but I believe he likely got this coolant filter kit free in order to clear the air and Performance Machines name.

In my opinion... they didn't. Someone got a bad kit awhile back with some less than stellar machine work (which can happen to any company) and he decided to bash them publicly on the forum before giving them a chance to correct the problem. I bought their coolant filtration kit after the fact and had no issues with it at all... and was happy with the kit.

I do have to admit that black hoses would look better. Maybe differant colored hoses could be an option. Just a thought.

Color does not matter to me. I shortened the length of my hose to the degas bottle. I have to say, I will not be a happy camper if I paid for mine and someone else got one free just to give a review because they had a different brand.
