Anyone else did the "Cold A/C" mod?

It is simply putting a ball/schrader type valve in the coolant hose to the Heater Core, and shutting the coolant flow off.

Thus reducing temperatures and allowing more cold air to be made/distributed without heatsoak.

Anyone else did this? Opinions?

Hmm, sounds interesting, but isn't there a 'mixing valve' type thing on or near the heater plenum that basically does this? Not sure, but I know my 2 older Mustangs (both 1967) and my Cougar all have this type of set up from the factory. If our trucks don't have this, though it sounds like a pretty decent idea...

I did mine over a year ago and it works just fine !!! I got the idea from my Peterbilt ... it came with shut off's at the block !!! On my F250 I made an "H" shaped by-pass with 3 "screw type" valves so coolant would recirculate when by-passing the heater core... yes it is a bit of over-kill At that time I replaced ALL heater hoses with blue silicone hose.. (truck drivers favorite) ... should last for a L O N G time Dave

Thanks Mongo!

I don't think the coolant not circulating to the heater core in hot weather is going to have any negative effects, will it?

At any rate, I'm 99% tempted to go on, and pick up a valve and toss it on...

Also...

Did anyone else's A/C-Heater Core box have the silver insulation?

Mine has a few shreds, and I'm wanting to re-cover it....To help eliminate heatsoak....From the engine bay...

My I6 LOVES to produce heat...Seriously, the fenders are hotter than all get out after a hour long run....

Give Home Depot/Lowes a try for both the tape (big $$$'s) and the foil bubble wrap stuff ... also wet suit type material works well too... Put some around you battery too .... the wet suit stuff not the foil bubble wrap stuff !!!

I would re-think the 165* T-stat ... your computer will think your truck hasn't heated up yet and will over feed gas like during a cold start and you MPG WILL DROP !!! Yes it's true check it out !!!! Dave

the heater ac box should have a door that shuts the heat off to the ac coil anyway I don't see the advantage with no air going across the heater core no possible way it can get any colder

Yeah, it won't make the air colder, it's just making the dashboard a bit less hot.

No... A/C air doesn't pass over the heater core as long as the temp lever is all the way on the cold side.
