88 F-150 4x4 Speedometer cable

88 F-150 4x4 Speedometer cable
on my 88 f-150 the speedometer cable came out of the transfer case.
This cable also controls the cruise control and 4 wheel drive. My question is this, how do I go about reinstalling this and is there anything in the way of adjustments that I have to make. The cable came straight out of the transfer case after driving on the highway and losing cruise control and the speedometer. I still have the o-ring that came off with it. Is there a gear inside the transfer case that I have to retrieve along with some type of retainer?
Any Help?
