Lucille had an engine venting problem, finally fixed it today.

Lucille's previous owner had installed a sbc 307 (from a '73 camaro) in her and thought it would look cool with a set of 283 unvented valve covers. The older 283's used an oil filler (on the intake) with a vented cap (which she had) and a rear draft tube vent that went behind the engine and vented under the vehicle. The po didn't have this on the engine since the 307 originally used a vented valve cover with a pcv valve which pulled the crankcase engine pressure out through the intake (specifically the carburator vacuum line at the base of the carb). Lucille's set up made the vented oil filler cap an oily stinky mess which also made the cab smell like hot motor oil all the time. To remedy this, I ended up replacing the valve covers (with a vented set), used a t-connector from the vacuum line behind the carb for both the crankcase vent (pcv valve) and the brake booster, then slapped a vented oil cap on the other valve cover. I replaced the oil filler tube (on the manifold) with a freeze plug and painted it with a rattle can. Seems to be working fine now without the stink and oily mess. While I was at it, I replaced the air cleaner, removed and cleaned the carburator, repainted the intake, replaced the fuel line (cleaned the glass style fuel filter), and repainted the alternator bracket matte black. Pics below.

Thanks Rob, here's how she looked under the hood when i bought her last fall. I've spent a ton of time getting everything in order, very therapeutic.

Thanks for the before pic. Brings it all into perspective as to how far you've brought it.

Nice fix. Usually it's the OWNER that a venting problem here...not the truck!
