Couple more painting questions

So painting my whole truck aint in my budget rite now. But I have some rust spots and paint bubbling in a couple places. So I got a wire brush and got the main rust off and a paint scraper and peeled the bubbles off. Now what grit sand paper should I get to smooth it down? Then should I primer the spots? And will Rust-oleum in a rattle can work? I just want to stop the rust from spreading for now until I can re-paint the whole truck.
Thanks Guys!!

Heres the two biggest rust spot..
Can anybody tell me how that dent might have gotten there??
And how I might be able to get it out since I cant get to it from in the cab?

On the bed..

Rust bubbles on the "rain gutters"..

After I scraped them off..

And some nasty rot in usual spots Im gonna replace..

I'm not a paint and body expert but I know just enought to make me dangerous. The self-etching primer in the can works pretty good and you should be able to use 1200 grit or higher to smooth it out but the rust you have from what I see in the pictures looks to be cancer. Your going to have to cut it all out and replace the metal or just replace the panels all together. That dent in the cab looks like the truck had been rear-ended. I can't imagine what lies under that paint. I wish you the best of luck with it.

1200 grit is for polishing not body work, Get 80 grit to rip it down then 150 then 220 will be fine for what your doing, Get some primer made for automotive priming dupla(sp?) color and put quite a few coats on, Those rust spots on the roof you need to drop the head liner and just soak the heck from the inside to seal it with rust proofer BUT if metal needs to be replaced DONT USE rust proofer just spay some glossy paint in there it will make welding a PITA with rust proofer smoke piling out and may cause a fire...but all the rest just soak them down with primer it will slow it down but wont stop it, The only way to stop it is replace it.

As for the bend its one of 3 things someone went wheeling and twisted it pretty bad, Hit in the rear end, Or some one jumped it.

Postpone the paint job until you can fix that rust properly by replacing it. If you simply "treat" it now to make yourself feel better but it will just come back and bubble through your paint job.

Buy a MIG welder like a Miller 140AS and start cutting, fabbing, and patching... it's not rocket science.

Agreed - there is no good way to seal rust. The only way to fix is to cut it out & replace with good metal.

As for the dent - the bed hit the cab. These truck frames flex a LOT!
