Opinion on FICM power supply?
Came across this while shopping for a spare FICM. Wondering what ya'lls opinion on it would be? Good buy or not?

If your problem was/is low voltage, that implies (not guarantees) that the power supply section of the FICM has a failed channel. It has four FET channels in parallel to make up the 48 volt supply. That is basically a replacement power supply board. There is a 6 channel board available at high cost, I saw while browsing. For me, changing the board would be easy, for others it might be a pain (made my living repairing high end computer electronics for around 10 years). Your gamble is - will changing just the power supply fix the FICM? And are these boards new? high quality? rebuilt? Who knows? Neat option to have, though.

Yeah was thinking about it after posting. Is it going to be better then the factory or have the same weakness. There might be some guys that cant do the down time to send off their FICM and this is something that could be installed pretty quick. Cheaper option than doing half shell at least from what have found. My FICM is still good but I kind of like having spare parts around just in case.
You have links to the 6 channel boards?

Note the the listed part number is not the complete FICM, it is only the power converter board. I purchased this DorMan board at a bargin price from local retailer to have as a spare and to experiment with.
Note that the DorMan part appears to be a clone of the OEM part! It appears to use all the same major components, board layout with a up rev on the board part number and includes the DorMan name. It also has the same soldering issues as the OEM part so if you purchase one plan on doing the soldering fixes as mentioned on this and other websites. LOL I would add that my OEM FICM has been going for 7 years and 139K miles without a problem, as Clint Eastwood once said "do you feel lucky".

not to diss anyones design efforts but at $699 the Bullet is very steep pricing . And then what test program has it been through to substantiate it is any better design than the OEM at the premium price it demands? Where's the data??
One could take two Dorman power converters interface them together in the original housing and have an eight phase unit for under $250 Also note the Dorman part proudly displays "MADE IN CHINA" where as I would bet the Bullet unit is made in "USA"

Circuit Board Medics offers exchange modules
You can order an exchange pre-programmed for your truck from Circuit Board Medics that prevents downtime too. It is definitely a better option than the Chinese clone Dorman FICM power supply.

Also for the ones that can't have down time Ed at FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair
does have some type of exchange program. You will need to contact him
to get the info on that.
My spare FICM will be going into the truck as soon as the surgeon says I can
go back to bending and twisting. The one I have in there now will then be sent
off to Ed to get the upgrading.
