there two nuts and a lock washer. the first nut you will take off is smooth on both sides and is the jam nut, then there is a washer with holes in it that correspond with a dowel on the inner nut, make sure you don't install them wrong, the washer keeps the inner nut from moving after reassembly. the notches in the nuts are square and should be 4 of them
I have done this job many times, once you start taking things apart you will see how the socket fits on the spindle nuts. A Haynes/Chiltons/Ford service manual covers the R&R procedure pretty well.

Check the link in my signature for most of the work in the front end of your truck, also, don't get that tool, there is a variation with a skirt that will prevent it from slipping out of place when you apply any significant torque (and you need to apply 140 lb/ft as pre-load when tightening them...).
