Driving 08 250 6.4 with GVWR rating of 10,000 lb. Pulling 5er with loaded weight of 12,700 lb. Total GCWR is 21,200 lb. The GCWR rating is 23,500 so no problem there. Problem is my GVWR is 11,000 lb. (Truck loaded plus 5er tongue weight) Do I have to transfer or lose 1000 lb. from front of 5er. Don't know if that is possible. Question is has anyone towed exceeding their GVWR? If so what has been your experience? Thanks.

Sounds like your pin weight is really high and assuming 20% of 5er weight then 2540 lbs is over your door sticker rating of 6100 lbs. If your water tanks are behind the trailer axles, then you can load some water as that will lighten the pin, also load your heaver things inside behind the trailer wheels.

The caveot to loading water behind the trailer wheels is that it does add more stress to the tires and axles and on the other boards there are ramifications for doing that so it depends on what is the worst of evils.

Last thing that you want to do is kick momma out of the truck and have her ride behind the wheels in the 5er. Makes for really long trips!

hmmm, mine comes in at 2800 lbs. (pin wt)

My concerns were axle ratings, ok.
GCVWR, ok
Tire ratings, ok

Drive the truck.

I tow a 14K 5er I come in sometimes right at 23K depending on how long we will be out.

I'd also say you are fine, remember the manufacturers stop at 10Klbs to keep the trucks out of class A territory, they can handle a lot more especially on the towing side.

Yeah, you're fine providing the rear tires are rated above the weight on the rear axle. If you read the axle rating you will note it is tire specific. So, increase the tire rating and increase the rear axle weighting. But only to a reasonable level. You might want to consider a set of air bags if you are having night time head light issues. With that pin weight i suspect you are. IE, they are shining up in the air and POing on coming drivers. Don't get too wraped around the axle over the numbers. And, there are no weight issues with the police or DOT for NON-COMMERICAL vehicles except when it creates an unsafe condition like the rear bumper scraping the ground or the load about to fall off. As to the second part of your question I submit the picture.
