Got a lifted 89 f150 looking at some Militray tires, Got a couple of ??

Hey everyone, I am seriously looking at getting 12.5R20 Continental Un directional tire. The description says approx 40" tall, But what I want to know if that means 40" or 39" or 41". Thanks guys for any help.

Dont plan on going on the highway either. If you look the tires are only rated for going 56 mph.

Well I wouldn't mind a 12.5xR20 Michelin Radial XL. Are they rated for hwy use?

Never mind on the hwy use. Looks like all the military tires suck. Highest mph I see is 65.

I've ran my old dry-rotted bias ply NDT's up to 60mph and nothing exploded, and that was a 13,000lb deuce. Not to say they wouldnt have exploded a few minutes later, But I think a new-ish radial should be just fine at 65mph. Honestly unless you upgrade the entire braking system I wouldnt want to go much faster even in a pickup.

Yes sir you did. I was just trying to find a big cheap decent tire.

Looks like its time to go shopping again. I've been doing some pretty good driving here lately, the GF lives 30 min away.

If the radials will hold 65-70 mph then they good for me. I'm not mudding eveyday just looking for a decent tire for less than $2000.

I may be completely misinformed on this but I thought that the speed rating on those tires was with them at or near max load capacity?? They are designed to run 65 mph underneath a deuce and a half..... Your truck weighs 5,000 lbs.. Anyway, I know that I ran Michelin XLs on my Chevy 6,000 lb chevy for 2 years and I ran 70 mph all the time. Like I said before, I loved them on the street but they are not so good off road. Really depends on which sacrifice you want to make. One other good thing about them is they last forever, they wear like iron.....

military tires are made of a harder rubber and take FOREVER to wear out, and yes the speed rating is under max load, they can do over 100(got friends...) but they arent that great as far as traction but they weigh way too much for you to even want to bother with my friend, stick to a truck tire, my advice would be toyo MTs, i got em on my 06 f150 and they are astounding, smooth quiet, great traction and perfectly reliable, $$$ yes but they all ar when your near 40in tall, id personally say stick with 37s, any bigger is a bad bad idea on dana 44s even if its road only

Yeah, thanks guys. I probably just need to stick with 37"s. Lol. If I had $700, I know where a set of new (still got side nipples, guy doesn't want them, came on a truck for parts truck) Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with kevlar 37.12.35R15.

I have been looking at the Super swamper Irok, and Toyo MT's pretty hard. The Toyo remind me of a Nitto Trail Grap, just more side tread which I like.

Is there a good bit of difference b/t 35's and 37's?

For future reference:

I also plan to upgrade the brakes. 77 thunderbird calipers, F350 booster, F350 master cylinder, and F350 wheel cylinders. I already have steel braided lines. If anyone know who makes dual piston calipers for a 79 Dana 44 axle feel free to pitch in.

37s vs 35s? 37s are sexier haha but other wise not much besides you will feel a tad less giddy up and go and a mile or two less mpgs and 1in better ground clearence, personally id stick with 35s and get some mud rovers and be done with it

the brakes are a good idea and have at it man

The f350 wheel cylinders mean nothing.

You would want 1 ton axle and brakes(the complete thing) for those size tires. there is a lot of mass there to stop spinning
