272 car engine to truck

Hey guys - I posted this in the wrong forum so... I am looking at a 1957 272 ci Y block car engine that is mostly there to put in my 1964 F100 with a Borg-Warner T98 trans. I am told I would have to change out the sump /oil pan to make it work. What else has to be re-worked to make it work in my '64 F100?

I really want to find a 292 Y set up for my truck at a reasonable price...anyone have a line on one?

What would the casting numbers be on a 1964 292 Y block truck engine - anyone know? ....maybe NumbersDummy?

How do you know the 1957 car engine is a 272? Both the 292 2V/4V and 312 2V/4V were also available.

How do you know if the car engine is really from a 1957 or from a car? It could be a 239 from a 1954 car, or ditto from a 1955/56 truck.

Does the "mostly there" engine have a carb? 1954/56's used the awful domed "teapot" Holley, has specific to it intake manifold.

1957's used a different Holley, looks pretty much the same thru 1964.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

I'm not sure what the various 1960's 292 block casting numbers are, and I'm not going to guess.

If you already have a Y in the '64 then you have everything you need for the swap.
The truck uses a different timing cover and bell housing. These are required for mounting if you plan to use the stock mounting arrangement. You may be able to get away with using the car oil pan. The truck uses a different thermostat housing but you can make any of them work with a universal radiator hose.

i think the fuel is on the other side no big deal
clutch linkage i cann't remember(did mine in 1986 change inline to y)
radiator i got one from a mid 70's ford station wagon 400ci? the v8 is in back of rad support, 6 is inline with support use a 4" extention on fan and a shroud
had the mount from old rad bolted to the new rad to move closer to engine ( does that make sense?)now days use elect fan
had a hard time finding a bell!
