Plastic High Boy Gas Tanks

Does anyone make replacement tanks for the plastic rear mount tanks in high boys? Are there ways to weld or seal them with epoxy?

I`ve seen people get epoxy like stuff they have resealed their tanks with but I think it is pretty much temporary. I`d be too afraid to weld it, Gas fumes + spark. On top of that though I didn`t think any highboys came with fuel tanks in the bed?

The ones with dual tanks had a rear mount tank.

I have a tractor that had a cracked fuel tank. I took it to a place in St. Louis that professionally welds tanks and had them do it. Top notch work and better than being blown up! Cost $80.

I seen a guy weld a fuel tank once....he took a hose from the exhaust of a running vehicle and put it into the empty fuel tank, thus displacing the combustible gas fumes w/ non-combustible CO 2..it worked... but I would still leave it to the pros

Gas tank

I have been unable to find ,anywhere, a tank (plastic) that is mounted behind the axel and for a high boy 4 wd with the narrow frame,no one seems to make them.I looked at Auto wharehouse and they did not even list a tank.

Welcome to the site! I haven't really heard of a plastic tank but I have heard of Bronco II tanks being used. I have not done it myself but that might be worth researching. Also there is a member on here, Bucks77Ford, who bought a new rear mount fuel tank for a highboy. But again, the tank is not platic.

here is a pic of the 'plastic' rear fuel tank, you can hust see a glimpse of it through the steel shield, this is in a 78 f350 2wd crew cab, these also came produced w/ the 'narrow' frames like the 4wd high boys

a aftermarket custom aft fuel tank made from stainless steel ..notice the knotch for the cross member, this one holds 55 gallons, I am going to go broke filling this and the fwd fuel tank up in my 77 crew

2nd pic as seen upside down

would you believe that spring pack from the 74 4wd crew cab went onto my 88 f350 4wd mason dump...a direct swap...not a good thing to replace the ubolts on, larger size, longer and a step up in the grade of bolt..twice the price ..same set up in my 77 4wd crew cab also

Hi there.
I was wondering if you could post the dimensions of the tank you have shown here? I need one for a project I'm working on and it would help to have them to take to someone to fabricate.
thanks.

-42-1/2" overall length on top/front to back
-27" wide
-25" top..from front top of tank to fwd. part of notch
-3-3/4"..notch, which is 7" deep
-13-3/4"...from back of tank top to back part of notch
-14" tall/overall/back of tank
-34-1/4"Heavy/base of tank from back to fwd. bend up, which rise/upward bend is 7" tall
-8-1/2" light...part of tank which goes over rear diff

I think that covers it..good luck

"the perfect Tank"

You wouldn't happen to want to sell that tank would you?
Doesn't hurt to ask...
I appreciate the dimensions very much.
Thanks again.

I have a friend that tryed that some years ago and it blew up. It went right through the metal sheeted back wall of the garage, landed a good 20 feet out in the back yard. Knocked him out for a bit too. He's lucky to be alive today.
