New to the diesel world have a few questions!

Hey guys, I just recently purchased a 2009 F350 Harley Davidson edition. Has 50000km on it, and jus have some questions bout the truck itself. First it has a edge evolution cs programmer, S&B cai and AFE power exhaust 4" exhaust on it so how do i know if theres a DPF delete kit installed? Second question, is the truck has 37'' toyo open countries on her and my tft f is running at about 165-170 fahrenheit on the highway without any load which, seems really high to me. whats to hot and what should it be running at? Last question is, i set my programmer back to stock and drove for a bit it was all good, then I noticed a little red r show up on programmer screen and before you know it, was blowing white/blue smoke like crazy so i pulled over shut the truck down and change the setting back to power level 1 on the programmer and now everythings good. I'm sure these all all easy answers but like i said im new to the diesel world and any help would be appreciated! thnx for your time

trans temps are fine. anything around 160-190 is completely normal

If towing then you may see it stay more of in the 190 range. Up to 220F for a short time is fine.

When the truck was put back to stock it wanted to clean the exhaust filter or DPF. that is what the R mean't. That is the reason for all that smoke you saw. Sounds like you are missing that from under the truck. Take a look.

do you have the orginal owners contact info? Did you buy it privatly?

Large cylindrical tank. Has heat shields around it and 6-8 horizontal bolts connecting it to somewhat of a conical/cylinder towards the front of the DPF. If their is a tuner and aFe exhaust with intake, and the problem you explained, I'm gonna say you don't have a DPF.

My guess is no DPF, but all you have to do is look under the truck and if there is an awfully big pipe (like a foot in diameter) it is there, if you have a 4-5" pipe from the front to the exhaust, DPF is gone.

Ya DPF is definitely gone for sure. Whats a good level to run my tuner at without the fear of starting to burnout the injectors? Its a five stage. Also looking to do a few more things to this truck any suggestions on what i can do? Definitely want the power but better mileage always is good to

I'd get a tuner with a DPF delete tune...A DPF is going to set you back $3600.00 or so.

He already has a tuner with a DPF tune. His original post stated that when he turned it back to stock, he has power issues.

A DPF is only $1500 and can be easily installed on ones own to save on labor costs.

He only says he has a tuner, but if he's not running a "no dpf" tune, then it will smoke it's butt off without a "no dpf" tune installed. If it's smoking with one of those tunes, then the truck's PCM is trying to "clean the DPF" even though one isn't there, which will give out loads of smoke as diesel is introduced to a straight pipe. Thank you.

If he has an Edge Programmer, the small "R" means that the engine is in Regen mode thus the smoke.

Correct.

Once again, the OP stated that he had power and smoke issues when he returned the truck to stock. After he returned to Power Level 1, everything is good. I'm not too familiar with Edge tuners, but I'm pretty sure that Level 1 on his tuner is a DPF Delete tune. When the OP returned to stock, the PCM was then programmed to think the DPF was re-installed therefore going into Regen.

after going threw my tuner again i think i found out why it went into regen mode. the tuner asks everytime when changin the setting if the dpf has been removed in this case i pressed no instead of yes by accident, so i figure it tried to clean itself out thinking the dpf was there but it is straight piped until the downpipe in the back. im trying to find a manual on the chip on the web here and cant seem to get anytime besides youtube videos becuz id like to find out how each stage works and what its intended for, i wanna find a towing setting for the weekend gonna be hauling a trailer wit 3 quads on her going bout 175 miles. im not worried bout power issues as it not that much weight but more a mileage thing, anyone with a edge tuner out there that can help me out?
