little help if you would be so kind....

I have a 69 ranchero 500 with a 302, And it dies at a light if im lucky enough to get to the light but most of the time i start it and it just dies, So i cleaned the 2 barrel carb put new spark plugs in it and got a new battery and it ran good for like a day and now im back to the same problem any ideas also i put on a new air filter as well...

O ya and before this happened it would back fire LOUD when i was trying to get it started and go when i was in the intersection

Check your cam chain.

Pull the distributor cap. Rotate engine by hand until the rotor moves. Reverse rotation and note how many degrees of crank rotation you get before the rotor moves. Over 5 it's a question mark, over 15 replace the timing set.

A wandering idle and backfires are clues to problems in that area.
