94 bronco top question

Hey Guys,

A buddy of mine is selling a 94 bronco xlt for 1500, which seems like a good deal to me, my question is, can the top come off legally? I heard that it was illegal for the 94 bronco top to come off because of a seatbelt issue, but wouldn't the driver and passenger still have seat belts?

i think the legal problem is the 3rd brake light is removed with the top. you could probably rig something to the spare tire rack to get you back to legal. if the truck is in fair shape mechanicaly that sounds like a good price.

your rear seat passenger seat belts bolt to the top. you can get past this by installing more of a lap belt setup that you can get from any wrecking yard on an older bronco. I wouldnt worry about the rear brake light as they didnt show up on broncos till 92. if you want go to harbor freight and get a brake light that plugs into your trailer hitch plug and mount it on your spare tire.

Thanks for the information guys, one more question, from time to time, if I pull the seats out and the top off, could this be used to transport something like a fridge or some furniture? not to be used a pickup really but its pretty useful if itl fit in there with the top off!

As long as you can get that fridge up there, then it will have plenty of room. Just don't hurt yourself

There is absolutely nothing illegal about removing the top. However, putting passengers in the rear seat without the legally required seat belts is. Removal of the high-mount stop lamp is not enforced simply because it would require the police to be able to differentiate between model years. And while some might be able to do so, most cannot. The best response I ever got in regard to the question of not having the high-mount stop lamp in place was, "You'd have to get caught doing something far less legal in your Bronco before we are gonna make an issue out of it". -MO Highway Patrol Sgt.-

Shoulder harnesses are not required in the back seat.....just lap belts as far as I have ever known. Not all vehicles have shoulder harnesses in the back......mostly newer ones now.

I did exactly this, and it's part of why I called my FSB a "Swiss Army Knife".
