I have an 07 f-150 and the engine will not stop rolling over, what could be the problem?

be careful, I had a Kenworth catch on fire because the starter never released once the motor started. the starter kept on spinning along and I went about 75 miles and all of a sudden i smelt smoke.I got out and the starter was on fire and it was spreading. ended up being a lot of damage and we figured out it was the starter when we were tearing the bottom end apart.

 

I was driving in the rain down I-75 and it started to hesitate like it sucked in some water. I pulled off to the side and it stalled. I tried to start it and as it was starting to fire the starter would not disengage. I had it towed home and tried it this morning twice and it started just fine both times.

 

it may have something to do with the rain,possibly shorted itself out. i would silicon the contacts to try and prevent that from happening again
