Well found an all original F100 Custom Cab in one of my Moms barns. I plan on fixing it up, thing seems to be in great shape for its age, pretty much no rust at all except for a small spot on the hood. Either way, I'm having trouble figuring out what year it is. The VIN plate in the glove box is in perfect condition and has everything stamped EXCEPT the year. I've decoded the VIN that was stamped in the glove box and came up with this:
F10CD140504
F10 = F-100/2WD
C = 292ci 2 valve V8
D = Dallas, TX (Its been in the DFW its entire life!!! )
140504 = Unit Number
As you can see none of which gave me a production year. Is there any way I can narrow down if it was a '61, '62, or '63??
here is some pictures:

Welcome to FTE
Whatever VIN decoder you used didn't include: 140504 = 1961 .. Assembled February 1961.
Didn't include the following from the Warranty Plate either:
122" Wheelbase.
J = Rangoon Red
F100 = F100 2WD, 5,000 lbs, GVWR
A = Ford 3 speed Light Duty Manual Transmission.
11 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.70-1 / no Limited Slip / 3,300 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
5,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
135 net HP @ 3,800 RPM

You've been mis-informed inre to what a Custom Cab is.
Your truck is not a Custom Cab, it's a Standard Cab.
1961 Custom Cab: Chrome steel grille & headlamp doors. Standard Cab, painted steel grille and painted headlamp doors / 1962/66 Custom Cabs have anodized aluminum grilles.
1961 only: The grille has FORD within it, upper grille panel is plain. 1962/64 upper grille panels have chrome FORD letters.
1961/66 Custom Cabs have stainless steel windshield reveal mouldings and Custom Cab nameplates on the doors, foam rubber seat cushions.
Standard Cabs & 4WD's have a horn button. Custom Cabs have a horn ring. Standard Cabs have a painted instrument cluster bezel with a round speedometer.
Custom Cabs have a chrome instrument cluster bezel w/a round speedo...except 1965/66 F100/250 2WD Custom Cabs that have a plastic chrome 'sweep speedo' instrument cluster.
Custom Cabs have R/L padded sun visors and R/L door armrests. Standard Cabs have a left unpadded sun visor and left armrest.

Hence the reason I said it was a CC.. Has the badges on each door, so i just assumed. I'm pretty sure it is a CC though. I will have to double check.
Hmm...Tis hard to make out the R/door Custom Cab nameplate when one has 67 year old eyes Will be 68 year old eyes pretty soon (9/9/2012).
lol, if thats the only thing going wrong then your doing fairly well sir. I just hope to retain half the knowledge you have when I'm your age.. (24 here)
Another question.. Is there a web site I can see how many trucks were made in '61 and then narrow it down with how many were made with those options. Next to no info is available, regardless of what website you're using.
IE - Only 12 made in 1961 in Rangoon Red with the 292, 9", 3spd, and Custom Cab. There is no way to find this out!
I hope this makes sense..
It makes sense. But what does not make sense is: Owners/enthusiasts of 1961/66 (all) FoMoCo vehicles (except Shelby's) are up the proverbial creek without a paddle!
FoMoCo THREW AWAY ALL THE RECORDS decades ago.
All that's available are the scant production figures, kept for the entire auto industry by R. L. Polk & Co.
These production figures do not break down Custom from Standard Cabs, how many came with what engine, trans, what color they were and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!.
From the Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks / krause.com / ISBN: 0-87349-411-3 / 1961 F100 Unit Body Pickup production figure: 62,410
This is IT! No breakdown is available as to short/long wheelbases, or any other jazz.
And, in the late 1980's, FoMoCo was planning to THROW AWAY all the 1967/79 records. Kevin Marti (martiauto.com), a Mustang "nut" in Phoenix AZ found out...and got ALL OF IT!

Nice Truck. Looks like a CC to me. There is a Uni category on here. At the very top of this page click on forums and find it. There is a thread there for registering your Uni. Guy has done a lot of research and is listing all he can fined to try and get an idea of how many are left
