Hi there,

I am having a problem with the transmission missing 2nd gear as the truck downshifts only in the tow/haul mode. It works fine up shifting and when not in the tow mode. Has anyone had this happen or know what the problem is?

It is the 4 speed automatic transmission and has 125,000 kms on it.

What engine does it have?

 

6.0 L. Sorry I didn't think the engine would matter.

 

You don't have a 4 speed, you have a 5R110. Gassers from 03-04 still got the 4R100, but starting in 2003 every 6.0L/auto got a Torqshift.

When was the last time you changed the external filter and fluid?

 

you are right texastech, not sure what I was thinking. We bought it used in '08 with 60,000 km so not sure if it has been changed but I am going to do that now. It only hauls heavy loads about 30% of its usage.
