I am currently driving a 1995 F.150 with a 302 and 186,703 miles on it. I decided to finally figure out how many miles per gallon it gets and calculated it up. It gets 7mpg, so I was wondering what is it suppose to get on average and any tips on cheap ways to get it up. I think I`m gonna change plugs in it soon and it always smells a little rich, so maybe it also needs a O2 sensor?
lot of it depends on what gear ratio you have, Check your sensors TP, and 02 are reletively cheap i would suggests replacing factory air box with a aftermarket of your choosing
My '95 f150 2wd/302/automatic with 3.31 gears would get a solid 16-17 mpg around town if you babied it along real easy. No flogging it. Just like grandpa. Get fancy on the pedal and it would get 14-15 in town. That with 90K miles on the ticker.
Last time I took my 89 for a decent highway trip, it was in the winter time, the truck is a 2 wheel drive, 5 speed truck, with 3.08 gears and it got 21mpg, hand calculated.
One of many reasons why the 302 is the perfect (for me and my uses) engine in my spare truck!
