what is the additve everyone is using in these 6.7s is it reguired pm-22

I think you'll find most use the PM-22 or Diesel Kleen.
I always used Diesel Kleen in my 6.0 and 6.4, now I use the PM-22 in my 6.7

Started with Pm-22 then switched to Optilube. I am out of Optilube now so I am using PM-22 again for now.

Why do you need an additive? The manual for my 6.7 has several comments about additives not being necessary, and possibly damaging to the engine. In cold weather, a cetane additive is provided for, but that's about it.

Help me understand.

Yes HPFP = High Pressure FUel PUmp

And No the fuel is not enough in my opinion.

Ok I don't want to get another thread started on this but here is the skinny. Some have looked at the SCAR rating required by Bocsh ( they make the pump on the 6.7) and have found that the U.S diesel supply has a lower SCAR rating than required. The SCAR rating rates the lubricity of the fuel.

If you have BIO of any percent the consensus is that the Bio adds all lubricity needed, and there is no need for an additive.

If you are running straight diesel most, but not all are opting for cheap insurance and using an additive of choice. Most seem to be using PM-22A since the manual lists that one as approved. That doesn't mean other additives are no good. It just means that if your HPFP did explode you have proof that you have purchased an approved additive.

There are other ( long) threads dedicated to SCAR ratings and the required SCAR rating for the Bosch pump.

Having said all of this here is what I do. You will have to decide what is right for you after doing the research. PM-22A is cheap insurance to me. A fill-up in my truck can be around $130. An $8.00 bottle that will last 2-3 fill-ups is beans to me considering the other maintenance costs of these trucks.

Do I need it?
I am no scientist but some added lubricity can't be bad for my HPFP, injectors, and any other fuel components with moving parts.

You can search the 6.7 forum for SCAR and read to your hearts content. Be prepared for INFORMATION OVERLOAD! Enjoy!

I was using a 1/4 per the directions. But if you want the results that the Spicer Report gave it looks like they were using 1/2. (What Optilube recommends for winter)

I have been using PM-22. On a side note. Where does every body keep the open bottle?
I don't have a tool box. I put it behind the seat and it leaks out. So I keep it at home and fill up then put it in.

I've used PM22A and now using Optilube. Only been using 1/4oz per gallon but am going to jump up to 1/2oz per.

I keep the bottle in a crate in the bed along with some other miscellaneous stuff. I always seem to spill some of it when I fill up and I think it kind of smells, I don't think I would want that bottle in the cab with me.

I found 2 bungies just the right length and keep them stretched between the front 2 tie down hooks in the bed. It is perfect to hold a gas can, bottle of PM-22A, DEF fluid, cooler, or most anything I need to haul. This way when I am filling up it is in the left front corner of the bed. It makes for an easy grab while filling up.
