01 to 05 Front bumper mounting brackets.

I have read that 2 of the bumper brackets or support wont line up so they arent needed when upgrading to the 05-07 front end on a 99-04. Which of these arent needed so I dont order the wrong thing. Thanks.

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's the side brackets. The front bumper plates are probably very similar in size/shape, but I'm not sure if they are exact. Since the '99-'04 bumper goes higher on the sides where the '05-'07 has the plastic center bumper part, I suspect the side brackets are different since brackets don't bolt to the plastic part.

I can get you some '05 pics/dimensions tonight if you'd like. My dad had to take the '05 to work today because his T-bird had the upper coolant hose split last night right after he got home, puking all the fluid out.

I know your Ranchhand is painted, but if you aren't particular one way or another, I'd recommend a chrome '05-'07 front bumper if you don't have one yet. The painted ones, since they are a big flat surface lower to the ground, easily take stone abuse and start rusting in a short time. I put a chrome one on mine after a small fender bender at around 12,000 miles, so I never had to deal with it rusting, but I've seen a number of them that do. Sure, they can be pulled off, sanded, and painted again, but it does take time/money to do that.

I know, I think I worded it poorly. I meant I know the Ranchhand is painted, but I'm sure the paint on it is probably a little more durable than the factory bumpers, so I didn't want you to base your decision just on how the Ranchhand has taken the elements. The factory painted bumpers don't take stones very well and start to rust on the surface quickly.

Here you go, it's actually two brackets here, where I think the '01 style is one V-style bracket.

If im not mistaken, the one that comes in at an angle is the one that won't line up since the 01 was v shaped there isn't a mounting hole for that one bracket. Thanks for the pic. Think I just need the 2 large mounts plus the 2 side ones instead of all 6.

From what I have read, u do still need the one at the angle. It mounts from corner of bumper to front bumper mount. The one u don't need the the "L" shaped braket the turns up at the frame horn. The newer style bumper mounts lower the older so no hole is there to mount bracket. I'll try to find the link where I saw that.

I believe the 18th pic down shows which bracket doesn't work.

Good catch. I remember that pic but had the brackets reversed in my head. Thanks for posting the link.

I didn't go with a new bumper with my conversion but I did have to cut off the top of the frame rail cap plates to make enough room for the 05-07 grill.

In this pic you can see the top of the plate cut off.

04 to 05 bumper conversion

I have a bumper from an 05 X and installed it yesterday on my 04 X but the bumper falls short at the fender openings by 2" and appears to be sticking to far forward, not much of an opening on the tow hooks. do I use the mounting brackets from the 04 bumpers? The L brackets line up and bolt on with no issues.
