There is a ticking/tapping sound in the middle of the engine near injection system. It runs fine and then when the engines gets hot not overheat then it starts the sound and runs really rough. Just put in plugs, wires , cap and roter. Seemed to fix problem but after driving for ten minutes started noise and running really rough again. seems to be intermittent problem? Any suggestions or ideas? thanks, Matt

 

Did you check to see if you're exhaust manifold is leaking ? that will cause a ticking sound like a lifter.

 

Thanks I did not check that but why is the problem intermitant?

 

That is a good point. I would also think that if it was a lifter issue that it would be constant because lifters dont just slowly go out. Also sounds like an EGR problem. Unbolt the egr and see if the pintle is stuck or if it is really carboned up. I just cleaned my GF's EGR in her car and it would intermittently run like *****. After I cleaned it she picked up 4 mpg and it runs awesome now.
