2000 Oil Pressure Gauge.

I have a 2000 X with a V10.

Back story:

Satuday the wife threw the Serp Belt. Pulled over and turned the truck off. After replacement of the Serp Belt every now and then the oil Pressure gauge will go ape Crap then go back to normal. Here is a video she took after belt replacement. It only does this Sometimes and last about as a minute before it goes back to working normal. Click the picture to get to the video!

That is pretty weird that it is just the one gauge. I would lean toward the sender or the wiring. Because these trucks last forever, there are known issues with the wiring getting chafed. Turns out that the oil pressure is read like a switch and not an actual pressure sender. Read some of the threads below.

I'd ditch that stock gauge and get an aftermarket mechanical gauge! Stock ford gauges are glorified idiot lights

Maybe the belt hit the sensor and/or wiring?

Thanks for those links Scott! Really makes it make since since its an actual switch that activates at 7psi and makes it operate the way that it does. I will get under it here in a few and start looking at the wiring to the sensor and see what i can find out. I see a 3 pillar gauge cluster coming in my new future!

Hope this isnt the case either! I am believing that it is electrical as it started after the serp belt broke!

This sending unit I looked around this morning. Is it Right behind the power steering pump with what looks like a single wire?

Yes, that's the one. It's in the long aluminum extension housing that goes to the oil cooler/filter.

Yup that's it. You may need a special socket to get the sending unit out(if that's what u wanna do) autozone carries them for like $8

Yep that is where I spotted it at. I would have the say the belt got it as I now have a power steering leak from that bottom line on the power steering pump that I also have to fix guess I kill to birds with one stone this weekend

Finally Got the the sending unit replaced it didnt fix the issue. Now I am going to use a mechanical Gauge to check everything out.. If I buy a complete gauge kit will it have everything that I need in it?

I have never done anything like this before.. Am I correct to assume that it will screw in were this oil pressure switch is? I tried looking for some threads on it but didnt come up with much.. I am hoping Scott can come through for me on findings steps or something for me to look at!

Scott who? Bummer Thomas. Can you put your video back up. It has been over a month and I can't remember the gauge action. Did you replace the sending unit yourself? Did you properly torque it to 10 ft lbs (not very much)? Are you getting the exact same action that you were before? Do you have an orange Fram filter on it? When was the last oil change?

You are correct in thinking that it will screw into the same spot that the factory sending unit is.

Here is post of where Mr Pipeline (in Lubbock) put in a T at the same location to run to his mechanical gauge. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post9423495

Here is another post warning of mechanical gauges "in the cab" as then can leak and make a mess, so make sure you get an electrical sending unit.

Looks as if the wife organized the photobucket account again and deleted the video. Basicly the oil pressure gauge was bouncing. Thinking of it as a switch it was like someone was standing there flipping it on and off.

Replaced the sending unit myself. Visually inspected nothing stuck out. Also unzipped tied the wire and pulled it to the top of the motor and inspected it for any cracks or broken spots since this all started when the serp belt was shredded.

Yes its still doing the same thing turning on and off.
