Hood hinges: Does anyone make a better set?

In looking at my worn out and sloppy hood hinges, does anyone offer rebuilt hinges or maybe even billet pieces like some of the street rod stuff? Anyone ever rebuild stock hinges to perform more precise?

Try the local bone yard or if someone is parting a truck out you can try and find a set for cheap, what year is your truck?

I don't want another set of original hinges. I want something that is precision. The factory set is designed to wear out with no bushings or bearings. Just metal to metal. Some of the hot rod billit hinges look great, just wondering if anyone has a set for our trucks??

If there are any aftermarket hinges made, I have never seen any, doesnt mean there arent any though. The set on my truck are original, 36 years old and counting, still work great. I lube them with white lithium grease in a spray can per the manual. Nothing lasts forever so I dont know how much longer they will last, if I can get another 30 years out of them and it looks like I will I'll be happy......

I have never heard of precision hinges for heavy pickup-truck hoods, especially for ~40 yo ones.

Best thing IMHO is do like bama above and periodically lubricate all moving parts as per the Owner's Manual.

Haha .... .... yeah, mine are only ... ... lets see .... 35 years old .... and my '77's hood shuts kind of ...
.... "perfect" now that I think about it!

I do use spray lithium grease on them every few years though.

AFAIK, no one reproduces these hood hinges / Buying used hood hinges: May be OK, may not be. At this stage of the game, 33+ years after the fact, most users are worn out.

But, there are dozens of NOS hinges available from Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors. What they'll want for them...who knows?

1973/79 F100/750 & 1978/79 Bronco:

D3TZ-16796-A .. Right Hood Hinge / Obsolete ~ 62 available NOS / Last MSRP: $922.91 / Dealer net cost: $615.27.

D3TZ-16797-A .. Left Hood Hinge / Obsolete ~ 34 available NOS / Last MSRP: $367.94 / Dealer net cost: $245.29.

Yeah, now that I think about it, the '75 hood settles itself up they work so easy. And the has that nice soothing latch sound when you lightly push down on it.

But yes, I would like more precise hinges too.

Wow, were they expensive like this in the day? Wonder why the right brings so much more than the left?

Metal to metal on something that works what, maybe once a week? And even then there isnt much movement involved. Lube them and they will last another 30 years. BTW, just exactly what are "precision hinges"? Im serious, never heard of any before.

I don't really understand your want, since the stock set obviously has more than enough precision to get the hood closed and latched securely on a regular basis.

but a google search for "ford truck billet hinges" yielded this: Eddie Motorsports : High Performance and Specialty Automotive Hardware

I'm sure they cost as much as a good used motor.

Below is an example of high falootin' hood hinges by the Ring Brothers. They make 'em for a variety of vehicles including early Mustangs and 67-72 bowtie trucks so have at it if you can adapt them. Oh, whip out your cash or credit card because these billet pieces are $685 a pair:

Actually you can buy an aftermarket new hinge from the Dennis-Carpenter.com website for $59 each.
