Down a litre

I`ve got a few friends with 6.4s and we all do our oil changes at the about the same time. Non of us have done the ccv reroute, mod, and we are constantly looking at the intake and cleaning it. One of us decided to lower our oil to 1 litre less than what it says to put in ( reads just below the half point on the dip stick) Guess what,, no blow by from the ccv at all and no change in engine temps, turbo temps, oil temps.
Would like to here comments,, is there too much oil being put into these engines.

I don't think that is gonna help, its the vapors that get sucked into the intercooler.

Exactly,, vapors full of oil depending on the oil level,,, I'm sure of it. We need some test test subjects,,,,,Senix,,,,,,,

While I'm sure one liter less of oil isn't likely to hurt anything there is a LOT of engineering that goes into the oil sump capacity of a modern turbodiesel. I always put 15 quarts in mine and never worried about it.

as long as oil is flowing throughout the engine its going to make vapor no matter how little or how less.....I understand your thought process here, but I honestly don't think its gonna make a difference.

Why don't you just do the CCV Mod?? I picked up an AFE intercooler this morning that the guy had 10k miles on and it had oil in it. I took my stock radiator off (15k miles since CCV mod) and it had literally not a drop of oil in it.

Fewer vapors is only achieved by better sealing around the piston rings. That is only going to happen when the motor is working.

All other times there will be some vapor.

that is my understanding

One Quart/Litre Down:

My 6.4 now has 60000 miles/100000 kms on it. From the first oil change, I have used 14 US quarts of Mobil Delvac 5W-40 Synthetic oil.

I have three reasons for this. Putting in 15 US quarts of oil is assuming that the crankcase is empty and when oil is added it takes 20 minurtes to get an accurate reading of the oil level on absolute level ground. Ford techs won't wait that long and shop floors have a slope for drainage. It can result in being over full. I understand when there is too much oil is in the crankcase, the oil will foam. Secondly it is possible that fuel is diluting the oil and filling the crankcase. Thirdly Ford has added the over filled oil quantity to the message center. Your truck should have the module recalibration under the Customer Satisfaction Program 11B23 which will protect you and your truck from this condition. The engine software is now capable of detecting elevated crankcase oil levels and will set a code and turn on the check engine light. If you have not gotten this update you should

For my peace of mind and to avoid the over full oil condition, the 14 US quart quantity addresses all of my concerns above.

Properly running motor is 15 in and 15 out. That is what I do. I do not make oil
