hi guys i have an 82 ford truck. that has the (srod)single rail over drive with alum case. the shifter is on the side of the tranny . not top loaded. im looking for one of these tranys for some time now. and cant find one. so im going to attemp to rebuild it if i can find the parts. also going to do transfer case. its a new process for the same year .............can i do this??? im very mech. inclined not a proffessional by any means. but i think i can do this just the bearings are bad in the tranny. and i think that the chain is streched in the t case. so i guess what im asking is where do i get these parts??? and can i do this??? am i going to need some special tools or not?? i have alot of tools but never did this before???

 

I would get a factory manual first, so you have some instructions on it. Google is your friend as far as rebuild parts.
