bent column?

I drove my truck today and noticed the steering wheel is probably 2 inches toward the dash on the left side and 2 out on the right side. I just got this truck and have only driven it a handfull of times but just noticed today. could bearings be wore out at 97k miles?

Its not a tilt. You can grab the wheel and move it an inch or 2 and has alot of steering play but I think thats in the box. It looks like a fatter guy than me used the wheel to pull him self in

I've seen it before, you can run the gambit of replacing all the bearings, however after all that it could simply be the shaft is bent. These trucks are everywhere, I would (and have myself) just get a good condition column from a jy and swap it out.

Is it an extended cab? A lot of times people use the steering wheel to haul themselves up and in when getting into the back on the driver's side.

I just did mine. It was not too bad, and it was a tilt column. The bearings are cheap, but if you need the spring or other parts that is where they get you. All told I spent about 70 bucks on the wobble part of my fix. Mi wheel wasn't askew though. I'm not sure about that.

Here's a link to my repair thread.

Good luck,

Mac.
