Question Converting to SD VC gaskets, UVCH, and exterior VCH

If I don't want to buy Dorman parts, what are my options for parts?

I think I would get new Ford gaskets and UVCH's. Then find an SD harness in the JY and take the pigtails off of it, solder it up and go.

EDIT: Then again, I guess you could probably get those pigtails from Ford also.

Dorman parts are just hit or miss if you ask me.

My vote is for international or Ford OEM ...heat shrink and solder everything and be mindful of the clip Vibe associated with the early harnesses

Some think so. I don't really see a disadvantage. But then again I don't see a real advantage either.

In my opinion , If you an solder and Heat shrink properly then yes .....if you want plug and play...... I would retain stock configuration and replace everything per side , carefully inspecting the VC gaskets for burn through......

I thought Felpro made these parts but I could only find the gasket.

I am converting to SD parts because the GP pins are larger and they won't burn up every six months to a year like my OBS wiring does.

My one and only experience with dorman UVCH was an epic fail. I bought what I thought was felpro, and you could see the differences in quality with the naked eye.

The SD does use larger GP pins, so it would be an upgrade to get away from burnt harnesses, but I have had to replace burnt SD harnesses before along with repair connectors that weren't tight enough to get a proper connection under the valve cover.

So far, I haven't had to replace any burnt UVCH's on my truck. Not sure if it's because of good new glow plugs or what, but they've yet to fail me. Now as soon as I say that, I'm sure I'll be replacing them before long. LOL

I put new Ford GP in when I fixed the connections last time.

I am also planning on putting a fuse in line with each GP as well.

So basically there are no off-brand parts available other than Dorman?
(Or Felpro for the gaskets only)

If someone needs some SD UVCH's send me a PM, I have a set that I bought by accident and I'll make you a very good deal!
