Disable the seat belt alarm when buckling-up does not do it - '03 Explorer
Hi
So the little magnet in the seat belt buckle of my wifes' 2003 Eddie Bauer Explorer that detects when the you are buckled up worked its way loose. Made the buckle inoperative until I pulled it out. Now the alarm goes off all the time. And my wife and I always buckle up.
I cannot use the procedure in the manual that is posted all over this forum because the computer cannot detect when seat belt is buckled. I could unplug the sensor wires under the seat but I have seen people say that this could affect the airbag?
So short of replacing the buckle assembly what can I do?
Thanks

I had a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition and a 02 Navigator and now a 06 Mountaineer and that alarms on all of them can be cut off look in the owners manual in the seat belt section there is a code and you have to cut the key on and off so many times in sequence . I cut that annoying thing off in all of the trucks I have..

Our 2002 has 2- two pin plugs under the drivers seat. One is for the seat belt ding- dong, the other is plugged into the seat belt latch and is part of the air bag system. If you disconnect that one, you get the air bag light on the dash lighting up and throwing a code. I pulled the plug on the ding dong and did away with that alarm.

I know this post is over two years old but I am having the exact same issue as the OP with my wife's 04 Mountaineer, started the same way too, with the latch messing up. I tried as Steve mentioned to locate and pull the two pin plug, but mine has 3 different two pin ones all which activate the air bag light. The final solution will be to buy a new belt latch but until then are there any other options? Possibly using gator clips to jumper the plug to fool it into thinking its getting an accurate signal? I know that's not optimal but hopefully something can get me through until I can afford a new belt latch. I'm a little leary of a salvage yard one because it could potentially already be damaged or worn.
