Did FORD actually produce these, were they contracted out or are they customized.

 

Dont believe they ever built these. The unibody would not hold up to the flex and twist that would be encountered. Bill Numbers Dummy or someone more knowledgable than I may chime in on this. Ive been messing with 4x4 for a few years and have never seen a factory made one. If it is yours what does the vin tag say. If you can post it up someone may decipher it for you.

 

i have only seen one and it looked factory. just seen it sitting and never got a close look. if it was not made by Ford, who ever did the conversion did a good job.

 

No such thing as a Uni 4WD, all were 2WD.

i know a guy around my area that was selling a '62 unibody 4x4. he claimed it was factory, but odds are they just put a unibody on a 4x4 frame. i'm not sure. pictures sure looked stock, the front bumper wasn't factory, but the rest of the truck looked straight, and cool as hell. if i can find some of the pictures i'll post em. hell i almost bought the thing for 1800 bux. happy with my 65 f1 tho

 

Don't need pictures. only the VIN. The Vin on a two wheel drive is F10/F20.

And on a four wheel drive it is F11/F26.

No four wheel drive or two wheel drive left the factory without the correct VIN.

And i mean the one stamped on the frame not the glove box or door.

If a Uni has 4WD, it's a conversion. Marmon Herrington (M-H) did many 4WD conversions.

If the truck is a M-H, it will have metal instruction plates attached to the dash.

 

4X4's those years were either Flareside (step-side) or used the '57-'60 Styleside box.

 

4WD also available as a Cab & Chassis.

1961/66 F100/250 4WD's that used the 1957/60 Styleside aka wrong bed: 1961/65 F100/250, 1966 F250.

I have seen exactly one 1964 F100 uni with four wheel drive. All the frame vins matched with the door tagand title. I scoured the truck for any discrepancy and no part was out of build range. Even then i still did not believe the truck was factory assembled but a clever replication.

Yea i know there was no 64s but it had a august of 63 build. And the title stated it was a 1964 F110. Wish i still had the pictures of it.

This truck was sold on Ebay as Genuine Factory and one of a kind about ten years ago.

 

Better send the medics to Garbz house I think the heat is getting to him.

 

Truck was in New York State.

On a side note. I can construct any ford truck 61 to 66 and make it all match a specific build range, and no one will be able to tell if it is a fake or real as there as no such thing as number matchig. ND may be able to tell but not the regular rank and file.

This is why there are about 25 percent more rangers on the road today than ford ever produced as it is easy to fake.

The genlteman I bought my '62 uni 4x4 from in 1991 claimed to have been the second owner. He says he bought it from the US Dept of Forestry in the early 80's, and that they had special ordered them from the dealer that way (dealer conversion). It may be a M-H conversion, but did not have any instruction plates. It is an F10 vin.

I can't say that any of that is true or not, but it seemed plausable enough at the time - except that there is no hint of the forestry service green paint *anywhere*.

I daily drove the truck from 91 through about 99, and have used it almost exclusivly for offroad use since. I have spit out 1 windshield and gotten one small body crack behind the passenger door - but I'd have to say it has held up *WAY* better than people imply it would. In fact, the biggest problem I have was a rear axle housing failure caused by the stress the rear lift blocks put on it. I'm running a newer 31 spline 9" from an early f150 now. I think the wider rear axle looks better, too. *shrug*

 

Nice looking rig. To bad what you are saying about it cant be traced back. It would add more validity to your story. Just keeps the mystery about Ford and their 4x4s going. Im begining to wonder are the two Im working on true 4x4 or not. I guess Ill leave that up to whoever is interested. Looks like you are enjoying yours trying to get mine to that place sometime soon.
