V10 with one side out of time.
I'm looking at a 2003 4x4 v10 Excursion that is a Repo at a bank. It did not run when the got it back, they had a shop look it over and was told that "one side is out of time" it has 160,000 miles just wondering if this normally means pulling and rebuilding it ? I have a little knowledge of these motors just sold an Excursion with 360,000 miles and still running strong, so i know they are great motors. Just don't know if this is a pull the head replace a couple of valves and timing chains put back together or more likely cracked piston pull motor kind of deal. Thanks for any opinions, one buddy of mine who's worked on several mod motors told me to run and not look back but he's a DIE HARD chevy guy !

You have to actually do a compression check on it to tell what's up. If it's really "out of time" on one bank, it would have had to break a timing chain. While not impossible, it is pretty rare.
I'd look further into it, it could simply be one bank of injectors or COPs is not getting power.

You might take a hand held scanner along with you and see if any trouble codes pop up. Then just check out everything you can to decide if it is worth for you to go farther in the process. Or to just give up on it and look for another one.
Also what is the bank asking for the truck? Can you get it cheap enough to then just replace the motor with a good used one. If it is in really great shape and worth fixing then try to get it cheap enough and then put in another motor and be done.
Good luck!
